Only very casually familiar with Singaporean style, but while riichi is a parallel, it seems rather harsh? If you are playing with a minimum, achieving riichi is still like a very long road compared to pinfu in Singaporean, which allows open chows. Seems to me getting a pong via honors is more like getting a bonus tile.

As someone who grew up playing CO and Taiwanese, learning Riichi was relatively easy. Playing it online in Mahjong Hime would be a much taller task for someone coming into Taiwanese from these more articulated, slower styles of play. I know when I tried it, it was pretty tiring! Much more so because the computer takes no time to do their turns.
