I think this is somewhat common knowledge among Genshiken, but I’ll put it down here for archival purposes or something.
Ogiue is really affected by her relationship with Sasahara, and the biggest indicator of this is her eyes. If you compare Ogiue prior to dating Sasahara and Ogiue during her relationship with him, you’ll notice that she has a glimmer in her eyes that she didn’t have previously, not even during junior high.

PS: This of course doesn’t quite apply to Genshiken 2 anime, because the way her eyes are drawn are different, and have a lower shine similar to Osaka.

I’ve just discovered your blog and since I’m such a huge fan of Genshiken, especially Ogiue, I was instantly hooked. You are now in my RSS feed list!!
I also really like your writing, you bring up some very interesting points. I’m a bit different then your average anime fan. I’m a 38 year old male who only got into anime about 3 years ago. Sure, I saw Speed Racer and Star Blazers growing up as a kid but I didn’t even know they were “Anime”. I just thought they were strange cartoons.
A number of times in my life I tried to get interested in Anime through friends or something on TV but I always ended up seeing something like Akira or Ninja Scroll, not the type of stuff that interests me at all.
It wasn’t until a co-worker let me copy a few shows and the first one I watched was “Hand Maid May”. I laughed my ass off and really enjoyed the ever so slight romantic side of the show. Soon I saw “Love Hina” and then I was hooked. Why didn’t anybody tell me Anime was more then Ninjas or giant robots!!!

Since I didn’t get hooked on Anime till my mid 30′s I didn’t have that emotional attachment to shows of my childhood. I started to become a bit of a snob where I didn’t want to watch older shows with such “poor animation”. haha. Thankfully I got over that and now watch just about anything, good and bad.
